Why We're Different

OlamRO is a Renewal server with a pre-Renewal feel. You get all the Renewal content — the new towns and maps, the new monsters and their drops, the 3rd and 4th jobs with all their skills, up to Episode 19 — without the pile of gear systems that came with it.

The problem

A lot of us grew up on pre-Renewal Ragnarok and never made the jump. It wasn't the new maps or the new jobs that put us off — it was everything stacked on top of the gear. Enchanting, re-enchanting, gear grades, random bonuses, shadow gear, costume stones, a different NPC for each of them, and a feeling that your +9 weapon with a good card wasn't "done" until you had gambled on five more layers. For many players Renewal didn't feel like more game, it felt like more homework.

OlamRO is an attempt to fix that: keep the content, drop the clutter.

What we keep

  • All Renewal towns, fields, dungeons and instances, up to Episode 19.
  • All Renewal monsters, MVPs and their drops. Gear that rolls random bonuses when it drops (a Crimson weapon's element, the stats on a Vicious Mind weapon) still does — that's the monster's loot, not a system. What goes is adding bonuses afterwards at an NPC.
  • Every job, including the 3rd and 4th jobs and their skills, with the Renewal combat formulas they were built on.
  • Cards, refining (up to +20, with the Blacksmith Blessing sold for zeny in the Prontera refine shop) and the gear you earn from episode quests.
  • Episode gear you can farm. The tokens that Renewal episodes trade for their gear (Honor Tokens, Mora Coins, Rock Ridge Coins, Amethyst Fragments and the rest) still come from the daily quests, and they also drop from the monsters of that episode's own maps and instances, at rates that make farming a piece take about as long as questing for it. Quest or grind — your choice. To see the real rates, type @whodrops Mora Coin or @whodrops Amethyst Fragment in game (the five best monsters for any item) or @mi Miming (everything a monster drops).
  • Small comforts: card removal, costume conversion, banking, equipment switching.

What we removed

  • Enchanting. No enchanter NPCs, anywhere. What an item does is written on the item.
  • Gear grading. No grades D to A on top of refines.
  • Socket enchanting, shadow gear and costume stones.
  • Fixed cast time. With enough DEX and INT your skills cast instantly, the way 150 DEX used to work. Items and skills that only reduced fixed cast time are gone or do something else now.
  • The level-difference penalty. A monster gives the same EXP and the same drop chances whatever your level. Hunt where you like, alone or with friends of any level.
  • Achievements, attendance rewards and the roulette.
  • The Eden Group. No free starter gear, no Eden equipment, no Eden quest boards. You start in Gonryun with a Healer and a Warper, and the rest you earn. The headquarters building stays open, because some episode quests and instances start there.
  • Cash shop and donation items. Nothing on OlamRO is sold for real money, and nothing is handed out for free.

What that means in practice

Your character gets stronger the way it did in classic Ragnarok: you level, you hunt the monster that drops the item you want, you find the card, you refine, you build around it. Two players with the same item have the same item. The best gear takes time and some luck, not a spreadsheet.

It also means the newest Renewal content is a real challenge. Those maps were tuned for players stacking every system we removed, so expect to party up for the hardest dungeons and MVPs — which, if you ask us, is how it should be.

The rest

  • Rates: EXP 150x / 150x · Drops 50x · Cards 1% · Mini-boss & MVP cards 0.05%.
  • War of Emperium: Sundays 3–4 PM Mexico central time, one castle: Neuschwanstein (Al De Baran).
  • Start town: Gonryun, with a Healer, Warper, Job Master, Stylist, Reset Girl, Rental NPC and a PvP Arena next to each other.
  • We are in alpha. This philosophy is set, but the details aren't. Tell us on Discord what feels wrong and it can change in the next update.
